This is a 53 yr. old woman, who developed a large thick, painful and tender keloid, after having a tummy tuck. Patient tried various treatments, such as over the counter scar creams and injections to help alleviate the symptoms she was experiencing. During consultation, Dr. Guarino advised patient that the scar could be excised, with postoperative superficial radiation treatment. The radiation treatment tells the skin to stop forming scar tissue. The over development of scar tissue causes the scar to become raised, painful, and itchy, this is known as a keloid.
